On November 8 and 9 of this year, the National Banking and Insurance Commission (Comisión Nacional de Bancos y Seguros), through the representation of the Owner Commissioner, Ms. Alba Luz Valladares, and the Manager of Financial Education and Inclusion and Gender, Ms. Ligia Marcela Herrera, participated in the 2023 Annual Summit of the Financial Alliance for Women that took place in the city of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
The Annual Summit is an event that exchanges some of the world’s most important knowledge that focuses on what institutions can do to champion the women’s economy. At the event, participants learn directly from practitioners and subject matter experts, share best practices on how to harness the women’s economy, and discuss the latest innovations and approaches that are making a real impact on women and the businesses that serve them.
The Summit was attended by representatives from commercial banks, FINTECHS, insurance companies, payment companies, investors, venture capitalists, asset managers, telecommunications companies, as well as thought leaders, regulators, policymakers and development finance specialists.
The event included thought-provoking discussions, new insights, and engaging and interactive sessions, exploring key issues to enable inclusive growth for women and build sustainable economies; In addition, key areas were explored to build the key value proposition for women, Climate Action and Women’s Markets.
Commissioner Valladares participated in the panel “Public-Private Collaboration Drives Data Action,” which focused on how regulators and other government actors can help Supervised Institutions improve their data capabilities of Women MSMEs. Panelists presented different types of commitments, such as consultations, committees, and other actions that can increase data uptake across the financial sector, and ways in which actors at the national level can lead the way in ensuring that data from Women MSMEs is prioritized.
